Home Care

Dos & Don'ts of your service

  • Waxing or Sugaring

    Pre-Dos:

    • Exfoliate and moisturize the skin two to three times per week before your appointment. We recommend using a sugar scrub in the shower followed by an Aloe or Shea-based, fragrance-free lotion when your skin is still damp.
    • Exfoliate in light circular motions for 10 -15 seconds.
    • In the bikini area, exfoliate and moisturize the thigh creases and the Mons Pubis area only. Stay external.
    • Do not exfoliate the day before, the day of, or the day after.
    • Do not moisturize the area that will have hair removed day of.
    • Do not apply deodorant if getting underarms hair removal.

    Post-24hrs:

    • Do not apply any scented lotions or creams
    • Do not exfoliate the skin for 48 hours after
    • Do not apply Deodorant (if you had underarms sugared)
    • Avoid Heat (including saunas, steam rooms & hot yoga)
    • Avoid direct sunlight, tanning beds, and infrared lamps
    • Avoid working out, anything that makes you sweat
    • Do not apply make-up to the treated area
    • Do not touch, scratch, or rub the treated area
    • Wear loose-fitting clothes as much as possible

    Post-Dos:

    • It is very important to exfoliate and hydrate your skin.
    • 24 - 48 hours after start exfoliating with a sugar scrub the treated area 2-3/wk
    • 24 hours start moisturizing with a shea or aloe treated area 2-3/wk.
    • Wear loose-fitting clothes as much as possible
    • Let the area air out at night.
    • Avoid lace or exposed elastic bands

Do not use a razor or tweeze to remove hairs in between appointments. This defeats the purpose and decreases the benefits of hair removal.

How long should I wait after stopping my current hair removal method?

    • Razor/Shave - At least 10-14 days of regrowth for sugaring  or 1/8" at least 21-28 days of regrowth for waxing or 1/4"
    • Wax – Allow 4 weeks of regrowth or 1/4"
    • Sugar – 3-4 weeks of regrowth or 1/8"
  • Facial

    Pre-Dos:

    • Drink lots of water as this will hydrate your skin and prepare it for the facial
    • Keep with your regular skincare routine so your skin therapist can see how your skin is daily.
    • You can shower before but do not wash your face unless you are wearing waterproof makeup.
    • We want to see your skin condition in its normal state.

    Pre-Don'ts:

    • Don't drink too much alcohol a day or two before, as this will dehydrate your skin and thin your blood vessels which may irritate you.
    • Don't use retina or retinol products within three days before, as these products may irritate or counteract with other facial products.

    Post-Dos:

    • Drink lots of water, as that will continue to keep your skin hydrated.
    • Stay out of the sun, if possible, for the remainder of the day.

    Post-Don'ts:

    • Try not to touch your face for the remainder of the day and not be tempted to irritate any acne that has been worked on by your therapist.
    • Don't take too hot of a shower or go into a spa/sauna for 72 hours. This will open the pores and may irritate your skin.
    • Try not to wear much makeup, if any, for the rest of the day. Let your skin breathe and enjoy the natural glow!
  • Brow Tinting

    Pre-Dos:

    • Arrive at your appointment with clean eyebrows. Remove any traces of shadow, pencil, or powder, and ensure no oily residue from tanning oils, facials, or other treatments. Clean brows will ensure the tint can absorb properly.
    • DO apply a brow serum to continue to care for your natural brows. (Just wait 24 hours after your first appointment before applying.)

    Post-Dos:

    • Avoid washing your eyebrows, or going swimming for 24 hours, as these activities can cause the tint results to fade.
    • Avoid exfoliating facial cleansers. Those containing AHAs or other chemical exfoliates may decrease the life of your tint.
    • Try to avoid applying oil-based products directly on your eyebrows or using harsh face washes that will lighten the tint more quickly.
  • Electrolysis

    Pre-Dos:

    • Avoid shaving the treatment area for at least three (3) days before your appointment. Hair needs to be long enough to grasp with tweezers.
    • Drink plenty of water the day before, the day of, and the day after your treatment. Dehydrated follicles are more difficult to treat. Hydration will also help your skin heal more quickly.
    • Facial electrolysis - do not wear makeup. Please remove makeup from the face before your appointment.
    • Underarm electrolysis - do not wear any deodorant on the day of the appointment.
    • Bikini electrolysis - shower before coming to your appointment.
    • Your diet can affect your sensitivity. Avoid stimulants like caffeine, chocolate, or sugar on the day of your appointment.
    • Avoid sun exposure on the area to be treated for 48 hours before your treatment to avoid dilation of the blood vessels.
    • Female clients may find that they are more sensitive during or right before their menstrual cycle and may want to avoid making appointments during that time.
    • Many clients find that taking a pain reliever 30 minutes before their appointment makes their treatment more comfortable.

Hygiene is extremely important, especially when working on private areas. Please shower before coming to your appointment. Your appointment may be canceled due to hygiene issues.

    Post-Don'ts:

    • Do not rub, scratch, or squeeze the treated area following your treatment. By touching your skin, you are transferring bacteria from doorknobs, etc., to treated areas. This will cause a breakout (whiteheads).
    • Do not wear makeup over the treated area for 24 hours.
    • Avoid perfume or alcohol-based products. They will dry out your skin. You can wipe the area with witch hazel if needed. Washing your face with a mild face wash will avoid irritation.
    • Apply bacitracin, Neosporin, or another antibacterial ointment or cream to the treated area the night after your treatment. This will help your skin heal even faster, especially facial areas. Apply with Q-tips or clean hands.

If your skin is still irritated on the second day, apply hydrocortisone cream (arnica, cortisone, Cortaid, or anything with 1% hydrocortisone or hydrocortisone acetate). It is anti-inflammatory and will reduce redness and swelling. It also works on pimples!

Ice can also be applied to the treated area to reduce any swelling.

    • Avoid excessive sweating if having work done below the neck for 24 hours. Sweat can cause bacteria to enter into the open follicles and cause minor infections. Exercise before your electrolysis appointment instead of afterward.
    • Avoid the sun for the next 72 hours to avoid the formation of brown pigment spots.

Your skin defends against UV rays by producing pigment, which will deflect some of the harmful rays. If your skin is injured or traumatized, it can overproduce pigment in those areas. This can result in hyperpigmentation. ALWAYS WEAR SUNSCREEN.

    • Do not swim in a chlorinated pool for 48 hours following treatment.
    • If small scabs appear, do not scratch them away. This can cause scarring. Allow them to fall off naturally. This is nature's way of healing the follicle that we have treated.

The scabs are lymph fluid that drained out the follicle and dried up. Keeping the area moisturized will often curtail the formation of scabs.

If discomfort should occur in closely treated areas, apply an Epsom salt compress: Add 1 tsp. Epsom Salt to ½ cup warm water, mix, and soak up with a washcloth. Lay the washcloth over the treated area for 10 mins and repeat until the discomfort subsides.

    • If you are prevented from coming in as soon as you would like for your next treatment, DO NOT TWEEZE!

The offending hair can be clipped off with small scissors, shaved, bleached, or you can use a depilatory such as Nair.
